Red Eft
Posie and Jennifer discovered this cute little red eft at Booker T. Washington Historic Monument while out monitoring blue birds in May. Red efts are the juvenile stage of the red spotted newt and occur statewide in Virginia. While adults are mostly aquatic, inhabiting a variety of wetlands, efts are completely terrestrial and take up to 7 years to mature.
