The vernal pools at Smith Mountain lake are alive with larvae and eggs this time of year. Our chapter volunteers found larvae of Marble Salamanders and eggs of Spotted Salamander. It's interesting to think about the Marble Salamander eggs which were laid in the dry pools last fall, and now hatching in the wet spring conditions. The Spotted Salamander lays her eggs in the spring pools and unless they are eaten, will hatch in the next few weeks.
Spring is here, friends! Thanks to Posie, Karen, Drema, Beth, Nancy, and Jennifer for monitoring for our chapter!
