Who is eating whom? |
Let’s hear it for decomposers!
Decomposers
form the final link in the food chain by breaking down dead animals and plants
and returning vital nutrients to the soil. Even though we may think everything
slows to a stop during the cold weather, decomposers are still at work.
Fungi and bacteria are decomposers, but
moss is considered both a producer and a decomposer. Moss produces its own food through
photosynthesis and helps to break down organic matter into nutrients.
Here is a great example of working
together!
