I was there much
of Saturday and briefly on Friday (delivering fishing gear). The Camporee
began Friday Morning and camp broke Sunday before lunch. About 40 campers
and a number of adults in attendance.
I worked with the
Brownies and with the Junior Scouts with some activities. I did some
snippets with Listening to Bird Calls and listening for Birds, provided some
handouts on Backyard Birds of Virginia, made some casts of animal tracks and
talked about other traces of animal presence, got in the stream to find some
macroinvertebrates and escape the heat for a brief time. The favorite of
the girls seemed to be casting animal tracks and taking the home. There
were also some hikes and some fishing activities and kayaking, as well as a
program on insects with the Daisy's but I was not as actively involved in those
as some of those occurred Friday and while I was working with different age
groups on Saturday.
