Bald Knob Trail at FCHS

BRFAL Volunteers, FCHS Students and Teachers Participated

Report from Nancy M and Chekka L

The trail project at Franklin County High School has started without a hitch! We had volunteers help plan the location and clear the first trail in the woods behind the high school track.  Thanks to Paul and Beth P, Posie M, Bob R, and ESPECIALLY Chekka L and her students, who did most of the heavy lifting! Paul has obtained tree ID signage which we hope to install in the next few weeks.

FCHS Students and Teachers did lots of the heavy lifting!

One goal for this project is to create an established trail that will permit access while encouraging people to stay off sensitive habitat areas of the nature area preserve.

Additional project parts yet to be accomplished are collecting and laminating leaves for ID use by the students and creating a sitting or meditation area.  Chekka reported that many of the teachers and students (over 200!) have walked the trail!  We’re hoping to add a trail during the next school year, and ongoing maintenance will be needed. So more volunteers are welcome to join this great project!

More volunteers are needed!
