Creek Week!

 

BRFAL volunteered again this year with Creek Week at the Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Rocky Mount.  This event covered five days of stream ecology instruction to 6th grade students.  Each day several 6th grade classes of about twenty students were split into two groups of ten student and were rotated every twenty minutes through chemical testing stations and Benthic Macroinvertebrate testing.  BRFAL volunteers ran two Save Our Streams stations and instructed approximately 460 students.

The Western Virginia Water Authority, Clean Valley Council along with the 6th grade science teachers were instrumental in organizing this event.  Many thanks also to Shearer who coordinated our chapter’s effort.   BRFAL volunteers were Shearer, Connie, Chekka, Geoff, and Bob.
