High Marks for the Pigg

Even though the weather was drizzly, the Franklin County High AP Science students were really engaged in monitoring the Pigg River at Waid Park by learning and using the Izaak Walton League’s Save Our Streams protocols. Assisted by BRFAL volunteers, the students were able to collect a good number of species. Based on the number and variety of macro invertebrates they found, the river probably scored pretty well!

These types of projects are a great way for Master Naturalist volunteers to help our youth explore the natural world and build an appreciation for all its inhabitants. And it’s a lot of fun!
