The Most Prolific Year

According to the stats (since they have been keeping these stats in 1895, which oddly enough is the same year our house was built here in Rocky Mount Virginia) the three-month period from December 2011 through February 2012 was the fourth warmest for Virginia and the contiguous United States since data collection began in 1895. It was the warmest winter Virginia has experienced since 1950.

What has this meant around these Blue Ridge Foothills and Lakes of Virginia? Well I for one can attest to the prolific wildlife this year! DGIF and others report massive increase in the number of snake calls, and other wildlife calls, and right here we have had more nesting birds than ever before! We have them in every plant, shrub, tree, arbor, rain gutter and eave!
