Eco Camp 2018 Kicks off today

Big BRFAL day today.  It was our first of three "Eco Camps" at Booker T. Washington National Monument (BTWNM) today.  Well it's not really a "camp" but we spent about 3 hours with local kids giving them some nature training,  They learn how protecting our "critters" helps protect the natural environment.  About 25 curious children attended.

Today, Nell & Neil Fredricksen instructed the kids about reptiles and amphibians.  The little naturalists got to hold an American toad, a tree frog, a baby box turtle, a corn snake and a black rat snake.

Then Shearer Rumsey caught their attention with some "creepy crawlies" as they are known
in the vernacular.  They got to see millipedes, centipedes, a sphinx moth larva and a Hercules or Rhinoceros beetle.  They then got to go out and catch their own bugs in special bug containers with built in magnifying glasses.

Needless to say, the children really enjoyed themselves.  The BRFAL team also found it very enjoyable.  We will have two more Eco Camps on the next two Saturdays.  I've attached some pix for your enjoyment.
